A Prescription for Safe Kids & Clean Environment

Our recent Operation Medicine Cabinet event held in cooperation with DEA’s National Take-Back Initiative was a HUGE success. Our local community turned in more than 2,822 pounds of unwanted medication for safe disposal. That means we prevented more than one ton of harmful drugs from falling into the wrong hands or contaminating our environment.  This total included 1,042 pounds of pills collected at temporary sites throughout Collier County on Saturday, April 26th.  The remaining 1,840 pounds of unwanted medication was collected at our permanent drop boxes.  “It’s wonderful to see our community coming together to take part in such an important cause,” said Melanie Black, Executive Director of Drug Free Collier.  “We are especially grateful for all the dedicated volunteers who make this program possible,” she added. OMC Volunteers_Marj Appleby_Jane Shaw_Cpl.
