Webinar- A System of Care Surrounding the Drug Exposed Neonate

Presenter: Dr. Sean Loudin
REGISTER HERE

President Obama spoke last month in West Virginia to help raise awareness about the heroin and prescription drug epidemic in the state. According to the state Health Statistics Center, West Virginia tops the nation at nearly 34 drug overdose deaths per 100,000 people—more than twice the national average. Dr. Sean Loudin is working on the frontlines of this issue with our most vulnerable population – neonatally exposed babies. On this hour-long webinar, Dr. Loudin will provide in-depth information on neonatal abstinence syndrome, and he will present innovative alternatives to hospital care for these babies that allows for a smooth transition into society.

Objectives:
1. Review the incidence of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) nationally and certain regions of the country
2. Review the pathophysiology of NAS
3. Describe a model for the care of drug exposed infants across different health care settings
4. Discuss short and long term implications of drug exposure on the developing child
